Hello, I'm Kaela.
I paint the animals you love, by hand, one at a time, from my studio in New Zealand.
Why I do this.
I started painting pets around a full-time corporate job, in the evenings and the quiet hours. What began as something I loved became something I fell in love with. Now I am building this into the work I do, so I can work the way I want to and be there for my son while I do it.
That is the honest reason this matters so much to me. This is not a side project anymore. It is how I want to spend my days, and how I look after my family. So when your animal lands on my desk, I give it everything.
I take it seriously.
Most of the animals I paint have passed, or are not far from it. People trust me with the last way they will ever see their dog, their cat, their friend. I do not take that lightly.
I learn your animal before I paint them - their colours, their quirks, the look in their eyes - and I keep going until it is right. Until it is them.
How it works.
Every portrait is a conversation, then a sketch, then layer after layer of paint, starting with the eyes. You see it come to life along the way, and it arrives wrapped and wax-sealed, with the colours I mixed for your animal and a few small things to make it yours.
